John Carpenter Sr.

Bass Player and Founder of SJ4 John has been playing on and off for years with different bands. He is the Manager, Sound Engineer and Promoter of SJ4. "I used to do backup vocals, but I let the young ones do it now. I have enough to do and Scottie and John Jr. sound great on backups. I have put together a lot of talented musicians in the Pennsville area. I have taught them to play and perform as professionals, I am really proud of that. They have started their own bands and are doing well. I just enjoy playing and having fun."

John Carpenter Jr.

John has 12 years of playing experience under his belt and is influenced by pure guitar-driven music. He began jamming blues and classic rock songs with his father, John Sr., at the age of 14. Then Scott, the son of one of John Sr.'s former band members, joined in on the sessions.
Since then, John has spent the past 10 years trying to build SJ4 but has struggled to maintain a consistent lineup. In spite of that frustration, John says, "I wouldn't take any of that back. This had made us tighter musicians and has given us a better eye for separating the uncommitted or untalented from the true musicians. This is the first time that the lineup hasn't had to worry about any weak links that needed to work on their fundamentals. Jeff and Jagger are seasoned musicians with stage experience and second nature talent. When you combine that with the solid core of me, Scott and my dad, I can finally call SJ4 a band."
John's gear consists of Gibson and Fender guitars with an assortment of modified, boutique and vintage stomp boxes. John explains, "I use a lot of Robert Keeley pedals, and I also use Lindy Fralin P-90 pickups in my Fender guitar. My tone is real customized, and I even have a few secret weapons that I prefer to keep to myself. But I wouldn't have known about Keeley or Fralin gear without Jim Zaleski of Pitman Music Museum in Pitman, NJ. This guy can repair, restore, and modify all music related equipment. He is also the source for the majority or SJ4's equipment.

Ozzy: Band Mascot

RIP: Ozzy

Ozzy our mascot had been with us ever since he was a pup. He would stay with the band at practice and sometimes bark if he liked the song. When we worked on new material and we were not playing it right Ozzy would leave the room. He would prance back to the room wagging his tail when we got it right. He was our biggest critic. So when Ozzy walked out at practice we all stoped and looked at each other and we played that song again. Ozzy was really a Cool Dog. Rest in peace, Ozzy.
